GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Green Bay’s Jasmine Kondrakiewicz and David Douglas Jr. are the latest bring home Horizon League weekly honors.
Kondrakiewicz was named the conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after posting a career high 21 points against IUPUI for her first double-double on Wednesday. Then following with another twenty point performance against Wright State as the Phoenix regained a one game lead in the conference standings.
The junior is having a career year with highs in nearly every statistical category, and is seemingly playing with more confidence as of late.
“I mean she has the ability. She puts as much time in as anybody as anybody I’ve coached in my life before. So, why not go out on the court and play like that. At times she lets those people creep into her and tell her either she’s not capable or shouldn’t be doing those kind of things. We talked about that in practice the other day, openly, and I just said, ‘you’re a good player. You’re your own worst enemy.’ Just go out and do what you do,” said head coach Kevin Borseth.
“For sure my confidence is lifted coach helps a lot with that telling me of my capability and just like reinforcing that in my mind. Also, my teammates have so much trust in me to take those shots,” said Kondrakiewicz.
On th men’s side, Douglas Jr. was named the league’s Freshman of the Week after averaging 11 points and shooting 70 percent from the field. Douglas returned from injury on Thursday and played just five minutes against Oakland, but upped his floor time to 25 minutes against Detroit Mercy.
Douglas went on to score 22 points in the contest as Green Bay took over the top spot in the Horizon League standings.
