INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WBAY) – One of the biggest changes this offseason for the Packers has been the hiring of new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who is taking the unit from 3-4 scheme to a 4-3.
Hafley is confident they have the players in house that they can make that switch. But they could always get a few more here at the draft. Brian Gutekunst Tuesday talking with the media and talking about how versatility is key with the new defensive coordinator and the players he will utilize.
“More just the conversations of what he saw on our roster and where he wanted to take it,” Gutekunst said. “Those will continue on as he gets to know our players better. I’m sure a lot of his thoughts are going to evolve. Especially when he gets his hands on them, and gets to meet with them and work them. My end of it, we are really a supportive role and making sure we have everything we need to play the way we want to play.”
One of the biggest needs right now is at safety. Gutekunst saying it doesn’t need to be a veteran coming in, it could be a rookie to let the young guys grow together. Maybe they can find that player, the right player, here at the Combine this week.
