NEENAH, Wis. (WBAY) – A junior on the Neenah High School swim team could have dreams of Olympic gold.
Drew Gaerthofner achieved a qualifying time for the U.S. Olympic swimming trials, the Neenah Joint School District announced Tuesday.
Gaerthofner swam the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:02.14 during the Jack Pettinger Invite at University of Wisconsin-Madison. That’s five-hundredths of a second faster than the qualifying time in the competitive sport where medals can be decided by thousandths of a second.
The swimming trials will be held on June 15 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis starting at 10 a.m. Central. It’ll be shown on the Peacock streaming service.
Gaerthofner will be a senior at Neenah High School next fall. The school district says he verbally committed to swim for UW-Madison when he attends college.
