GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Oshkosh native and UW-La Crosse runner Sam Blaskowski finished 5th in the first heat of the 100 meter Olympic trials, punching his ticket to Sunday’s semifinals at Hayward Field in Oregon.
Blaskowski ran alongside Noah Lyles and finished with a time of 10.23 seconds, which was good for the 22nd best time of the day. By finishing in the top 5 of his heat, he secured his spot in the semifinals.
De Pere native and UW-Oshkosh runner Davian Willems ran in the third heat, but came up just short in his quest for a spot in the semifinals. Willems finished 7th in his heat with a time of 10.44 seconds.
Blaskowski and Willems were the only two Division 3 runners at the event.
