All right! Let’s goooooo! The wait is over. The Brewers have been patiently waiting since clinching the National League Central on September 18th, the first team to lock up a postseason berth this season and the earliest date on the calendar in franchise history that the Crew has nabbed the checkmark. The quest for an automatic fast-forward to the NLDS evaporated about a week ago, so the only remaining question was against whom would the True Blue take the field in tonight’s Wild Card round? Hello, NY Mets.
Yesterday’s Mets-Braves double-dip unfolded almost perfectly, at least almost perfectly for this Brewers fan. Not only did I want nothing to do with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Mets were forced to burn through 5 pitchers, most notably Edwin Diaz for 40 pitches, to grab the game 1 victory and set themselves up for a game 2 deep breath before boarding a plane for the Brew City. The only thing that could have made this set up more tasty (on paper, anyway), would have been the need to use Luis Severino to secure the spot. But, alas, I’m not going to complain. I got what I wanted. I’m just hoping this doesn’t prove to be a rearview mirror “be careful what you wish for” analysis come Thursday night.
But whatever… For the moment I choose to put the anxiety aside in exchange for good vibes and good tunes. It’s the playoffs. So let’s dance!
