APPLETON, Wis. — Several sturgeon spearers are successful on opening weekend of the season.
The state Department of Natural Resources says 290 sturgeon were harvested across the Lake Winnebago system on Saturday and Sunday. That includes 156 from Winnebago and 134 from the upriver lakes.
Among the sturgeon harvested was a 180-pound F4 female from Winnebago. It is the fourth largest fish to be harvested in the system.
