Hortonville baseball is just one game away from heading to the WIAA state championship. The team defeated Middleton in the state quarterfinals to advance to the division one semifinal.
Their pitcher Thomas Burns, an Arizona State commit, struck out six batters by the fourth inning, according to WFRV. There was no scoring until the fifth inning of the game, when the Polar Bears took the lead with the help of senior Brett Sommer hitting a RBI triple that hit off the left-field wall.
Burns was able to pitch the entire game, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the team to a 3-0 win over Middleton. He allowed just three hits the entire game and struck out eight batters while on the mound.
Hortonville will face Franklin in the state semifinal game on Wednesday, June 14 starting around 4:30 p.m. If they win, the team will advance to the division one state championship game.
