MADISON, Wis–High school athletes in Wisconsin will not be able to sign name, image, or likeness deals and remain eligible for competition. WIAA membership rejects an amendment that would have allowed players to be paid for sponsorships and endorsements. The vote was 219 to 170 against the measure.
NIL deals are allowed at the collegiate level, as the N-C-A-A has lost lawsuits over bans on pay for play. Thirty-one other states have approved NIL deals for high school kids.
