Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+8) vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

In recent years, Notre Dame has disappointed in marquee games like this. (The clearest example is the 42-14 loss to Alabama in the 2012-13 BCS title game a dozen years ago.) So, I understand the reluctance of many bettors to back the Irish, but I’ll be on them as the underdog here. Granted, Notre Dame hasn’t looked as good (read: flashy) in its CFB Playoff wins over Indiana, Georgia and Penn State as Ohio State has been in routs of Tennessee, Oregon and Texas (OK, that was only 28-14, but they never trailed and pulled away in the fourth quarter to win and cover for their backers.
The Irish offense is nowhere near as potent as the Buckeyes, but its defense keeps them in games, and their coaches have had plenty of time to review the game film of Ohio State’s 13-10 loss vs. Michigan as 20-point favorites. Of course, the other playoff teams were able to do that and haven’t slowed down the Buckeyes, but I have more confidence in the Irish defense to make this ugly like Michigan and keep it low-scoring and a one-score game.
Since I think Notre Dame’s only chance to pull the upset is to muddy up the game, I believe there’s definitely a correlation with the dog and the Under. I wouldn’t talk anyone out of betting the Notre Dame +8/Under 46 parlay.
